Mars

Interior and Surface

The fourth planet of the solar system, Mars. The red planet has many interesting features just like the Earth. The reddish colour is caused by the rust in the soil. Some of interesting features are volcanoes, canyon, river beds, cratered terrian, dune fields etc. Of all this, the most interesting one is the extinct volcano. It was 23 km high and is highest volcano known in the solar system. It is called the Olympus Mons. Another interesting feature is the giant canyon called the Valles Marineris. It is 2500 miles wide and was 4 miles deep.

Atmosphere

The atmosphere on Mars is 1/100th of Earth's atmosphere. The temperature ranges from -133 degrees to 23 degrees. The atmosphere is mainly made up of 95.3% of carbon dioxide, 2.7% of nitrogen, 1.6% of other gases and other small gases. There are only 0.13% of oxygen and 1/4 of the atmosphere is water vapour. ince there is so little water in the atmosphere, there are hardly any clouds in the atmosphere.
