Garbage is classified in two main categories, organic and inorganic. It is that simple. Organic garbage is any waste that decomposes or that comes from a plant or animal (paper not included). Inorganic garbage is any waste that comes from man-made items, such as metals, glass, or plastic. Here is a table of classification:

Organic Inorganic
Plant Residues Metals
Animal Residues  Glass
Plastics
 Paper, Cardboard

As you know garbage is big source of pollution. Thousands of acres have been destoyed by it. Rivers have disappeared because of it. You can help to pollute less, by recycling. It is simple, you just need to separate your garbage, and you can even make money!!!

First, you need 5 waste baskets, one for organic, another each for metals, glass, plastic, and paper. You just need to throw the garbage in the cans, and clean it up. Also, threre are a lot of different types of plastics. If you turn over the plastic bottles you can see that they have a number inside the recycle triangle. This number is the type of plastic it is. You can also separate plastics by these numbers. There are many companies that buy this waste. For example, you can get about 5 cents per can in the US. Another example are glass bottles. Recicyled glass requires less energy during manufacturing compared with the energy needed to make glass from sand. So you are not just recycling materials but you are saving ENERGY!!
