hand holding fiber optics

Fiber optics is a radically different approach to signal transmission. While most other forms of long distance communication rely on either electromagnetic waves sent through the atmosphere or electrical current sent through copper wire, fiber optics uses pulses of light. Flexible glass fibers can carry messages very quickly over long distances with very little data loss. Lightweight and reliable, fiber optics is one 20th century development will continue in use for many years.
