LOCATION & GEOGRAPHY: China is situated in Central and East Asia. Mongolia, -Russia, North Korea, the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea surround it to the east. The Gulf of Tonkin, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, India, Bhutan and Nepal are to the south as well as India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to the west.

PEOPLE: The ethnic majorities are the Han Chinese who accounts for most of the population. The remaining population includes Chuang, Mangchu, Tibetans, Mongols, Ruyi and Koreans.

LANGUAGES: The official and national language is Putonghua or Mandarin which is the established Beijing dialect with other dialects including Cantonese or Yue, Shanghainese or Wu, Fuzhou, Hokkien and Hakka as well as minority languages such as Tibetan and Mongolian.
