Listen to a Language

Here are examples of our spoken language in our Listen to a Language section.

There are over 6700 spoken languages. It is estimated that a language is lost every two weeks (source Washington Post Aug. 9, 1999). The spoken language is a part of a cultural heritage. Languages are passed down from generation to generation and when the language is lost the culture stands a good chance of dying out. For this reason we have chosen to record ten diverse languages for you to hear. Korea has two different dialects recorded. We list the language and the major countries that speak it.

The files are all in RealPlayer format, this is because it's filesize is a lot smaller without significant loss of quality. To play them, you need the RealPlayer which is capable of playing the files. You can download RealPlayer from http://www.real.com/player/.

When you play a file, you will here someone say what language he/she is speaking, and then this person will say his alphabet.
