Introduction

This international team is made up of high school students from the United States, Belgium and The Netherlands. The topic of communications was agreed upon and the research, layout, emails, and late nights started. Obstacles had to be overcome such as language. Two of the three-team members were not fluent in English only Dutch. Time zone differences did start to take a toll at the end when time was running out and the deadline was approaching.

Some humorous things did happen that at the time did not make the team laugh. The chat sessions caused many crashes and in some cases the text was invisible. One member had trouble locating the others in the chat rooms. Putting the same map for several countries and the wrong picture to the text was time consuming but funny. Through it all, the site was completed and the team THOUGHT it was done with the competition.

Reaching Out: The Evolution was a successful endeavor and placed as an honorable mention. The team did some cyber head scratching and decided to continue and improve the site. A new javascript menu, new survey, new quiz, new sections such as the traffic and sign language sections, and images were added. The numerous awards which we received over the year were placed to show the honors for the hard work and excellence of the site. Yahoo! named it as the site of the day. Many educational sites have included our site in their resource sections. The site has been extensively used as an example of what can be achieved through not giving up and cooperation.
