Ancient Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations. Opinions are divided on the beginning of the empire, but it certainly lasted for more than 3 thousand years. Egyptians had great achievments in many fields, such as geometry, astronomy, medicine. Their religion was a complicated polytheitic sustem. They are famous, first of all, for their monumental architecture but also art and writing (hierogliphs).

Egypt became part of the Roman Empire as a province, then of Byzantine Empire. Between 639 and 641 AD it was conquered by the Moslems.
