The above definitions were written basing on "Nowa encyklopedia powszechna PWN". But the word 'civilization' has nearly as many meanings and shades of difference as people using the word. There is also a slightly difference between Polish and English semantic meaning. When talking about civilization in Polish one has rather in mind material culture, although the word may be used for both material and unmaterial culture. This meanings derived from French tradition and seems characteristic for European sphere. The spiritual men production is more often called 'culture'. While in American English there is no such difference.

Games are inseparable part of civilization. They are strongly connected with it's standard of development. We can say all civilizations had their games. In factmany classical games that survived sometimes even thousand years originated in civilizations from which contemporary civilization derives.

The ones listed above may be not all civilizations from our database of games. If you wish to check it go here.
