nox County Teen Court, Galesburg
Illinois, is a volunteer organization sponsored by the Ralph M. Noble
Unit #285 American Legion Auxiliary. The program was established to
give youth offenders a chance to clear their arrest from their
permanent record by performing community service and other duties
ordered by the court. Teen Court is not a trial court; all teens
admit their guilt and agree to accept a sentence given to them by a
jury of their peers. A judge is present to oversee the proceedings of
the court.
The Teen Court alleviates the strain on the regular court system and has been implemented in over 400 communities since the first Teen Court opened in Odessa, Texas. Besides giving offenders a second chance, it gives youths in the area a chance to participate in the judicial process.
This web site is provided for communities interested in beginning a Teen Court and also for existing Teen Courts to communicate and share resources with one another.
