Jurors

Jurors check in approximately 20-30 minutes before the first trial begins. In Knox County, Illinois, volunteers have been drawn from local high schools and junior highs. Some jurors may be past defendants.

An adult volunteer explains the procedures that will be followed. For example, jurors are reminded of the confidentiality oath .

The bailiff escorts jurors into the courtroom. A Real Audio interview explains what one of our bailiffs has learned through his experience with Teen Court.

After listening to the prosecutor and the defense attorney , the jury retires to a special room to consider the sentence options. Once the decision has been made, they will return to the courtroom where the sentence will be announced. The sentence will include features such as counseling, community service, a letter of apology, and jury duty.
