The word percent can be broken down into two different words. 
Per means of and cent means 100. So percent means of 100.
The diagram above is an example of 24% of 100

To write a percent as a decimal, move the decimal point two places to the left and remove the percent symbol (%).




To write a decimal as a percent, move the decimal point two places to the right and write the percent symbol.




In this sample problem, you are asked to find what percentage of 75 is 24. You can follow the steps below or you can use this ratio.


With this ratio, just substitute to calculate each different variable.
