In algebra, the order of operations is not always from left to right. Order of operations is a set of rules agreed on by people  to use so an expression has only one answer. But with the order of operation, division and multiplication are on the same level. Addition and subtraction are also. You do those operations from left to right.

This is a basic algebraic expression 
48 + (12-8)² ÷ 8
