About Us .26297. ThinkQuest 1999 EntryAd Infinitum Web
Lisa
Hiyas! I'm Lisa aka the project leader for Ad Infinitum Web, this ThinkQuest entry. I'm a native New Yorker and a recent graduate of Stuyvesant High School just this June and a soon-to-be Massachusetts Institute of Technology freshman, class of 2003. I've been teaching myself HTML and other aspects of web design for 2 years now and hey, what a better way to apply my work than to write about it? This site was originally intended to be a lot bigger, but due to time constraints and stuff like that we've had to focus on HTML, Perl and Flash. I worked mainly on the first two sections, the layout, and site odds and ends. The last two months have been a real ThinkQuest project cram. Ever stayed up till 4a.m., grab only 3 hrs of sleep just to get up and write a 10 page tutorial? You get used to hearing "We keep going and going and going..." I don't want to complain about that because it has been a real valuable experience nonetheless. The project can be lots of fun and it gave me an excuse to work on stuff I like doing - web site building. Did you know that we had 3 different site designs for Ad Infinitum Web? Well, we never got the chance to put them to the test here, but you can see one of mine applied to one of my recreational sites @ http://3dinfinity.com/uobh. We wanted to make this entry dynamic; you won't see old outdated pages like some other entries - we have an updatable news section, resources, downloads, new tutorials - a lot on the backburner - and the ultimate project - an web based online arena. This is not a static resource and hopefully you'll be here to see it all happen. It's been a hectic project year with our disappearing coaches, but we're pulling through... This is the work that we've done without help - something to be proud of :)
Gavin
Hello, my name is Gavin and I am one of the members who helped to create Ad Infinitum Web, the site that you are currently viewing. I was born in Queens, NY, but soon after, moved to my current location in a miniscule town(1 sq. mile to be exact) called North Arlington in NJ where I am attending the local high school, North Arlington High School(NAHS). Our mascot is the proud Viking. Here I will be a senior in September, in a class with a little over 100 students and 450 students combined in the entire school. Throughout the school year, when I'm not on my computer doing whatever I may please, I participate in sports and clubs in the school. In the fall, I participate on the Varsity football team, starting as the Safety; in the winter, I plan on playing basketball for the school, and in the spring, I participate on the track and field team where we've come in 2nd in our county two years in a row, and finally, all throughout the year, I will be working on the yearbook staff. As you can see, I try to keep myself busy and it's all a lot of fun. =] Here in North Arlington High School, you won't see much computer related activity in the school, except for a well-taught Computer Application class(it teaches in MS Office 97) and a very poorly taught Computer Science class (QBasic) where you must teach yourself the language because the teacher himself does not know it and neglects the students to indulge in a game of solitare. We don't have much connectivity in the school, unless you call connectivity 1 phone line connected to 1 computer that gets no use except to be signed on to AOL(TM) to check mail, and that's only when the teacher is benevolent enough to allow it. Aside from the lacking of computer involvement or any computers at all, we at NAHS have some(in my opinion) great teachers(with the exception of the Computer Science ones) that I've learned a great deal from, some genuine people who I owe a great deal to. When I'm not at school or playing a sport, most likely I will be on my computer, where I go online and enter a whole new world, not a world of AOL(TM) chatting though, a world where I've met some extraordinarly talented people, these are the people that I would like to thank for teaching me all that I know to this day. One of those people is my cousin Lisa (right above), I think one of her greatest qualities besides her wisdom and intelligence, is patience, which makes her a great teacher and person in general. It's been a strenuous (more her than it was for me) year, although we have not created the AIW page in it's full glory as was intended, we believe that those who come here to learn how to create their own webpage, will be far from disappointed.
