The Indian Horse Thief
Farrah looked down at the beautiful blue ocean. Soon she would land in Hyderbad,India for two relaxing weeks...or so she thought. She was going on a vacation to visit her motherıs cousinıs family in India.
Farrah was looking forward to seeing her cousins.
³Farrah! Itıs my turn to have the window seat.² demanded her younger sister, Sara.
³No, I still have five more minutes.²
³Ami!²
Their mother looked at them and sighed. How could they be so different? Farrah was 12 and Sara was 10. Farrah had black hair, while Saraıs was almost brown. Both had black eyes though.
³Farrah, we timed this on my watch and itıs Saraıs turn now.²
They switched seats and Sara started to draw the scenery. Farrah decided to take a nap. Soon Sara was shaking her awake and saying ³Farrah, wake up!²
³Now what?²
³Weıre going to land! The stewardess said so!²
³You woke me out of a good sound sleep to tell me that?²
But Farrah sat up a little straighter. This was her first time going to India. She didnıt intend to miss one exciting second! After all, who could sleep at an exciting time like this?
Soon they were at the gate. ³Look!² cried Farrah. ³Thereıs Pasha Uncle and Fashat Khala.²
Sara ran towards them and asked, ³Whereıs Saad and Fahad?²
Saad was 12-and-a-half and Fahad was 10-and-a-half. The girls liked them more then their real cousins, and the boys loved to visit them and their home in the U.S.A.
They were moving next year to Middlesburg Heights, Ohio so Fashat Khala invited them to see their home in India before they moved to the U.S.A.
³Saad and Fahad are at home,² replied Fashat Khala. ³We have to get your baggage and leave. Theyıve got your trip all planned.²
As they stood at the baggage claim, Sara noticed a man standing in the shadows. He was staring at Pasha Uncle. When he noticed Sara was watching him, he disappeared. Sara moved closer to Farrah and whispered, ³Did you see that?²
³See what?² said Farrah. Just then, their father told them to hurry up. But while everyone was laughing and talking on the way home, Sara was quiet and solemn.
Later in the afternoon while all the kids were sitting in a mango tree at their farm, Farrah asked what was bothering her. ³I saw a man just staring at Pasha Uncle. When he saw I was watching him, he ran off.²answered Sara
³ I wouldnıt worry about it. Why donıt you come and see our horses first?² said Saad.
The children ran off to the stables. ³I didnıt know you had horses!³ Sara said to Fahad as they ran.
³We have three of them. Iıll show you my favorite, Sultan. Your favorite will probably be Princess, I think,² replied Fahad.
When they got to the stables they opened the door of Sultanıs stall. He was gone!
³Where is he?² cried Fahad. Saad put his arm around his little brother.
³That man Sara saw. What if he was a horse thief.² Farrah said thoughtfully.
³Describe that man for us, Sara. ³ said Saad.
³Well, he was tall and had a tan. He had red hair.²
³I know him! He cleans out the stables at the advanced riding school. Thatıs where I go. And Sultanıs worth a lot of money.² yelled Saad.
³His farm is below ours. ³ said Fahad.
³Well, letıs go!² said Sara.
That night they all met under a mango tree. Saad was carrying tack and Fahad was carrying a stick. They heard Sultanıs whinny.
³Heıs in that pen.² whispered Farrah.
³Iıll go let him out.² whispered Sara.
Just as Sara opened the catch, a man grabbed her from behind and tried to choke her. ³Help!² she screamed.
Fahad tackled him and hit him over the head with the stick so that he was forced to let go of Sara. In all the commotion, Sara quietly got on Sultanıs back and rode towards the house.
The man was temporally taken with surprise, but he pulled a gun out from his pocket, held it to Farrahıs head and snarled, ³All right, nobody move or she gets it, and sheıll get it good.²
At that moment the police arrived, followed by Pasha Uncle and Sara. ³All right, whatıs all this about?² bellowed a police officer.
³Weıve got you surrounded, so donıt try anything!²yelled another.
The man knew he was beat and let go of Farrah. Later they found out that his name was Edward Bresnt, a known horse thief in the U.S. As for Sara and Farrah, they enjoyed the rest of their vacation.
