Finally, Sara heard the sirens

approaching. She stopped her pacing and glanced at the door, her
glaze skipping over the body lying in a pool of blood against one wall.
The sirens grew steadily louder until they stopped suddenly and running
footsteps took their place. The door burst open and a police
woman followed by several paramedics stepped past her
to the body. At last this entire nightmare is over Sara thought
to herself and she closed her eyes and let the official
do their jobs.

She had to rest. Her eyes felt like lead weights pulling at the shudders
of darkness. Finally she closed them and a silence fell over the room so as
to only have the sound of her heartbeat thumping and reverberating through
the room. She felt a warm wetness in her hands. She awoke to find hereself
in a pool of blood.
