It is everybody's responsibility to save the rainforests; this includes all the countries of the world, especially developed countries which rely on resources from the tropical rainforests. Organizing educational projects, workshops, and seminars can give others a chance to learn about they can do to help. The best way to help save the tropical rainforests is to learn about them and to teach others about their importance to life on earth. It is important to use as many different forms of media as possible to spread the message of saving the rainforests; such types of media include the radio, television, school, newspapers, books, magazines, the internet, and many others.

Also, people should not purchase items made out of the hides of rainforest animals such as armadillos, crocodiles, or turtles. In addition, they should not buy rainforest animals such as lizards, parrots, or monkeys as pets. Increased sales in these trades create a higher demand and in turn promote the removal of a species from its natural habitat.

Along with this, in order to prompt tropical countries to invest more money in preserving their rainforests, consumers have to show that there is a large market for renewable resources from the rainforests, which yields a larger profit than industries such as logging in the long run, while preserving the rainforests. A good example of rainforest friendly products are Brazilian nuts, which are common around the winter holiday season. By merely buying Brazilian nuts we show that we value the tropical rainforests.

As a teacher or leader of a corporation or other society, promote a penny fund with the intention of buy plots of land of rainforest to be preserved. One class in Arlington, Texas raised over 13,000 dollars to preserve 500 acres of land, which are now kept under careful preservation away from loggers, immigrants, and poachers.

For everyone, there are a few steps we can take to do our part in conserving the disappearing rainforests. Here are a few ideas below:

  • Switch to tree-free paper
Buy tree-free paper, and encourage friends, businesses, organizations, and even your local government to do the same. Tree-free paper is made from agricultural products like waste straw, kenaf, and hemp, so no trees are cut down for its production. When shopping, choose products with the least amount of packaging. Donšt buy old growth or tropical wood products; many alternatives can be easily substituted for old growth wood. If you buy any wood or lumber, insist that it be independently certified using Forest Stewardship Council principles and guidelines to reduce logging impact.
  • Reduce your beef consumption
Rainforest beef is typically found in fast food hamburgers or processed beef products. In both 1993 and 1994, the U.S. imported over 200 million pounds of fresh and frozen beef from Central American countries. Two-thirds of these countries rainforests have been cleared, primarily to raise cattle whose stringy, cheap meat is exported to profit the U.S. food industry. When it enters the U.S. the beef is not labeled with its country of origin, so there is no way to trace it to its sources. Reducing your consumption of beef will reduce demand for it, cutting back on pressure to clear more forests for cattle. • Boycott destructive companies
Corporations that destroy the rainforest need to know that the public is holding them accountable for their actions. Write to the executives of such corportaions that sell rainforest wood, animals, oil from cleared rainforest areas, etc, urging them to reduce or even stop their destruction of the rainforests. When one company makes a difference, others are sure to follow.
  • Refuse, Reuse, and Recycle
Refuse any paper you don't need, Reuse paper rather than using new ones each time, and Recycle as much paper and other recyclable products as possible. Put recycle bins around your school, workplace, neighborhood, corportaion, or other area to help promote recycling.
As an individual, YOU can help make a difference in saving the rainforests.
