Mercury is the second smallest planet and is not much bigger than the moon. This planet has lots of craters, which were made long ago when Mercury was bombarded from space by huge lumps of rock. Mercury has no atmosphere and is the closest planet to the sun. It is obviously the hottest plant and temperatures can soar to 425 degrees Celsius. Mercurys surface is four times hotter than boiling water. The surface is so hot because while Mercury orbits the sun it spins very slowly. Some parts of its surface stay exposed to the sun for three months. It is also very difficult to spot Mercury because it sticks so close to the sun, but it can been seen in some parts of the year.
