Introduction to the Consoles Wars

What are the "Console Wars" you ask?  Well, the term "Console Wars" refers to the struggle for market control between the major gaming companies Sony, Nintendo and Sega.  The very first war started in the 1990s, when the SNES and Genesis were major players.  Since Sony joined in with the Playstation, competition has increased, all three vying for market penetration.  Towards the end of 1997, it was evident that Sega's 32bit system the Saturn had begun to fail horribly.  Surveys showed that Sega only controlled 3% of the American population, while Sony and Nintendo held 59% and 38% respectively.   However, with the advent of the latest console by Sega, the Playstation and the Nintendo 64 might have met their match-the Dreamcast.  With its technical superiority, the Dreamcast amazed many gamers, but people were still wary of Sega since its failing system.  Sony, prepared not to be outdone, has announced the Playstation 2 (tentative title), which far surpassed the Dreamcast technically.  This has been yet another move made to increase its market share, and price cuts will be sure to follow.   But why is the Playstation and Nintendo 64 so strong?  Will the Dreamcast overcome this?  What of the future?  All this will be covered in this site...
