PRODUCTION                                                                                            The presence of economic grades of copper mineralisation in LOOLEKOP carbonatite is unique. Produdction from the open pit is scheduled to continue until the year 2002,by which the pit will have 58 benches and be 754m deep(357m below sea level).By that time some 2 250Mt of rock will have been removed from the pit and 3.4Mt of copper metal produced. From the commencement of operations until the end of the 1993 financial year, 1839.2Mt of ore and waste had been removed. From the year 2003, 30 000t of  copper ore will be extracted daily from an underground operation, for at least 20 years.This is expected to result in a further 1.4Mt of copper and numerios by-products by-products being produced by 2023.
