Pamela Van Walleghen
I am the Technology Coordinator for Urbana Middle School in Urbana,
Illinois. I have been involved with education since 1969 in many capacities including
mathematics teacher at the community college and middle school levels, technology teacher
at the elementary and middle school levels as well as teaching for the National Center
for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana.
I have collaborated with NCSA in many curriculum projects including Resources for
Science Education, Video Testbed, VR Testbed, Chickscope, Biology Workbench, and MapIt.
I collaborated with Kevin Erlinger in a web based curriculum on water quality funded
by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) "Tried and True Grant" and
received a "Museum in the Classroom" technology grant from ISBE for a web
based "Virtual Ancient Civilizations" project. I was principal investigator
for an Apple Education Grant, "Unity in Community" for the 1998-99 school year,
a project which won a Smithsonian Laureate Award for 1998. I am currently completing a
masters degree in Curriculum, Technology, and Educational Reform from the University of
Illinois. I have coached seven ThinkQuest Junior teams, one of which won fourth place
in the first TQ Junior competition.
