Always look both ways before you cross the street.
Be aware of your surroundings.
Drivers are usually occupied with driving, don't expect them to see you first.
If a firetruck, police car or ambulance is coming, do not cross the street until
it passes. The driver is intent on saving a life- don't lose your own life in
the process. Shortcuts may seem fine, and besides, the less walking you have
to do the better, right? WRONG! Never take shortcuts. You don't know who or
what could be lurking in the corners and shadows. Sore feet are better than injured feet!
Don't talk to strangers or get in a stranger's car. If someone wants to hurt you
they will probably make themselves sound sweet and nice, they might even offer you
candy or something else. Don't buy it! Never take food, candy, toys, or anything
from someone you don't know unless your parents say it's okay. The food could be
poisoned, drugged, or worse. Don't take risks. If it starts to get dark while you
are outside, head home. It could be unsafe after the sun goes down.
If there's a choice between a crosswalk and a side walk, choose the crosswalk.
Most crosswalks are protected by the city or government. They can be safer
than a sidewalk.
