Rainstorm Safety
Rainstorm Safety
Remember that little chant you probably used to say (or still do)
when it was raining? "April showers bring May flowers" Well, it's true! In the
spring it rains a lot, bringing tornados, floods, and thunderstorms, all of which are affiliated
with water. The water helps the plants which are planted in the spring and prepares the soil for the
plants to emerge. A small rain shower won't hurt anyone and
is okay to go out in, but once it starts thundering and lightning, get wherever you're going fast.
Thunderstorms aren't as bad as tornados or floods, but they should still be taken seriously.
Some of you may be thinking " That's crazy! A thunderstorm isn't going to hurt me!" But it could! Yes, the chances of being hit by lightning are slim, but no one is excluded
from those chances. About 100 people in the U.S. are hit by lightning every
year and about 1000 people in the entire world are hit every year. So you see, the chances
of you being one of these thousand is slim. But remember, it's always a possibility.
The Rules:
1
Go Inside! When you hear thunder and see lightning, head inside.
2
Not the Tree! Lightning is attracted to tall things, don't stand
under a tree for protection, it will provide just the opposite.
