You would be surprised to learn how many deaths are caused by poisonings
in homes. Some poisons when used in the wrong ways can burn you, damage
your insides, or cause your brain to shut your body down. Here are the safety
tips for preventing poisonings.
Poison safety tips:
Never take medicines if you are a child, without asking an adult. Families
should keep all medicines locked up and out of the reach of little children.
Don't tell little kids that medicine tastes like candy. Never take anyone else's
medicine. Make sure your family keeps all pesticides and chemicals out of reach
of children. Don't put dangerous liquids in jugs, bottles, cartons, or juice
containers that could be confused with another drink. Never drink straight from
a carton or bottle unless you are sure you know what's in it. Don't eat plants,
berries, or leaves unless you are sure you know what they are and that they won't hurt you.
Write down the number of the nearest poison control center and put it next to the
telephone. If you can't find it, call 911 or your local emergency number.
