Lawn Mower Safety
Most accidents involved with lawn mowers are caused by unsupervised children or
carelessness. Most of the 45,222 injuries in 1998 were sustained by adults, age 25-64.
2,327 injuries were to children under the age of 5
years. People 65 and older had 12,307 injuries. These are incredibly large numbers
from accidents involving lawn mowers. Also, more than 22% of lawn mower injuries
involved the wrist, hand, or fingers. Almost 14% were foot, ankle, and toe injuries.
