How to Perform CPR

How to give CPR to an adult:

1.First, find hand position on breastbone. To find hand position find the notch where the lower ribs meet the breastbone. Place the heel of your hand on the breastbone, next to your index finger. Place your other hand down on top of the first. Use the heel of your bottom hand to apply pressure on the breastbone.

2.Next position your shoulders over your hands. Compress the chest 15 times.

3.Then tilt their chin up and give 2 slow breaths into the mouth.

4.Do 3 more sets of 15 compressions and 2 breaths.

Call the local emergency number if you have not already done so. Then...

5.Recheck pluse and breathing for about 5 seconds.

If there is no pulse...

6.Continue the sets of 15 compressions and 2 breaths.

7.If the person does not start breathing after that, you can stop doing CPR when:

A. Another trained person takes over CPR for you.

B. Emergency personnel arrive and take over care of the victim.

C. You are exhausted and unable to continue.

D. The scene becomes unsafe.

How to Give CPR to a Child:

1. First, find your hand position on about the center of the breastbone.

2. Next, position your shoulders over your hands. Then, compress the chest 5 times.

3. Tilt their head back and give 1 slow breath.

4. Repeat the cycles of 5 compressions and 1 breath for about one minute, around 12 cycles.

Call the local emergency number if you have not already done so. Then...

5. Recheck pulse and breathing for about 5 seconds.

If there is still no pulse...

6. Continue sets of 5 compressions and 1 breath. Recheck pulse and breathing every few minutes.

7.If the person does not start breathing after that, you can stop doing CPR when:

A. Another trained person comes and takes over CPR.

B. You get exhausted and are unable to continue.

C. The scene becomes unsafe.

D. Emergency personnel arrive and take over the care of the victim.

3. Tilt their head back and give 1 slow breath, from cheeks filled with air.

4. Repeat the cycles of 5 compressions and 1 breath for about one minute, around 12 cycles.

Call the local emergency number if you have not already done so. Then...

5. Recheck pulse and breathing for about 5 seconds.

If there is still no pulse...

6. Continue sets of 5 compressions and 1 breath. Recheck pulse and breathing every few minutes.

7.If the person does not start breathing after that, you can stop the doing CPR when:

A. Another trained person comes and continues to administer CPR.

B. You get exhausted and are unable to continue.

C. The scene becomes unsafe.
