Animal Bites

Suggestions for avoiding animal bites:
Small children should never try to pet a stray dog, cat, or any other animal in order to avoid the risk of an animal attack or bite. Also, small children should never be around an animal experiencing wild or aggressive behavior. If an animal has attacked or bitten someone before, make sure to tell that to the person who would like to touch the animal. In some cases, such animals should be kept in a pen or cage.

First Aid for the animal bite:
With any kind of animal bite you should realize that the bite carries a high risk of infection. The infection could develop minutes, hours, days, or even months after the incident. The signs and symptoms of infection may include pain, redness, tenderness, swelling, pus, heat, or even red streaks around the wounded area. If bitten, first wash the wound thoroughly with soap and water. Then, cover the wound with a bandage and seek medical attention. For a serious wound, seek medical attention immediately.
