I am a kid, and I am researching on Y2k, so I think my opinion would qualify for this section. I don't think most kids think the world will blow up on January 1st, 2000. Most of the people who think that really bad things are going to happen base their predictions on religion, personal beliefs, or something else. I know for a fact that kids don't participate in religion as much as adults do.
Some people think that religion has a big thing to do with Y2k. In the Christian religion, before the year 0 is Before Christ and after 0 is A. D. In the Jewish religion, before the year 0 is Before the Common Era (BCE), and after the year 0 is the Common Era (CE). A lot of people are booking reservations at a hotel in Jerusalem just to be at the place that Christ was believed to have been. Many people are trying to be at some kind of holy place on the year 2000.
Computers are probably the biggest issue for me with Y2k. Technology is a big part of many people's lives. If all of the computers in the world were to blow up, the world would have a problem. I think that that is pretty unrealistic, unless all of the computer companies in the world automatically put bombs in computers every time one was created. Just because you buy a computer that is ready for Y2k, it might still go crazy on January 1st, 2000. Many programs are not ready for Y2k. Your computer can start up fine, but programs might not. Computers are a big problem with the year 2000.
I do think that it will be kind of weird writing 1/1/00 on top of all of my school papers. It will also be weird starting up my computer during the year 2000. To tell you the truth, I will be afraid to even turn on my computer on 1/1/00. I know that y2k will not be a life-threatening issue for me, but it might be for some people. After all, there will be a small shortage of electricity, water, and food. No one will be ready for y2k when it hits, but some people will be pretty close.
