It is estimated by government statistics that everything involving the Y2k will cost approximately 6.2 billion dollars. One reasonable prediction is that a lot of people are going to be sued for a variety of reasons. Some computer experts will be sued because they knew about the Y2k problem and didn't. People will sue people because they thought their computer problems were fixed, but they weren't. And, of course, some people will sue just because they want the money. Just before Y2k, the ATM machines will supposedly run out of cash from people panicking at the last minute about Y2k trying to empty their accounts. There is likely to be a crime spree on Jan. 1st because criminals think the computerized alarm systems will stop working, even though they will work. Businesses will close until after the year 2,000 to avoid having to upgrade existing software. The power supply will be 76% will operate normally as of December 31, 1999 and less than 50% available after January 1, 2000. Hospitals can expect four weeks of emergency cover only. Schools may be closed for weeks, and home school will have to begin. There will be 30-45 days of mail disruption. Television will not work. The only communication that will will be short wave and Ham radios.
One of the Y2k problems I found more interesting involved with the spontaneous firing of missiles. The only solution for this problem would be to take all weapons off alert, which all governments are reluctant to do. Although the experts in Russia say that it is such a minimal possibility and that it should not even be considered, others disagree. Since both, the U.S. of A, and Russia, have missiles pointed at each other's countries, the are both reluctant to do it.
One prediction annalists says that Asia and Russia's economy will only become worse in 1999. It is said that the stock market will crash in 1999. The same person said that in August 1999 there would be a nuclear war.
