The year 2000 computer problem is much simpler than it is thought to be by some. The basic idea of the problem is that without a four digit date, anything computerized will no longer see the date as the year 2000 but the year 1900 or 00. This problem started when programmers decided to use a two-digit date on computers to save memory space. They may not have been aware at the time what problem that this proposes for the year 2000.

Being a simple problem it has a fairly simple solution. The only thing that needs to be changed is to change the two digit dates to four digit dates, If only it were that simple. The large problem is that companies don't have the software or enough programmers to fix it. Now with less time than before companies are having many problems getting ready in time. One of the problems that the companies are experiencing with this solution is that it is not a single bug, but various smaller bugs. Therefore even if the problem was fixed certain parts of that problem may "slip through the crack". Since the information and programs that are made have some form of a date programmed into them every type of software would have to be modified. So when exchange data with each other, then that companies software would have to be changed to correspond with the first. Many companies will shut down on the first day of the year 2000. This will cause unemploymancy leaving many people jobless, and eventually homeless. Scarier then before many companies that claim readiness to the year 2000 problem will be ruined do to small bugs that weren't fixed.
