The Allied countries in World War II, which included the United Kingdom, France, the Soviet Union, China, and the United States of America, had banded together to fight the Axis powers, which consisted primarily of Germany, Italy, and Japan. Although the Allies fought against nations committing atrocities such as the Holocaust, the Allied countries themselves sometimes employed questionable tactics to accomplish their goals. For example, the Soviet Union charged Germany with the massacre of thousands of Polish officers in the Katyn Forest of Poland in1941. However, it was Russia itself that had killed the officers. Another example is the bombing of German cities by American and British aircraft, which killed many civilians.
This page deals specifically with actions taken by the United States.
