The aim of the comparative sociological study carried out in the teaching year 1997/98 was to compare the families

of Ukrainian and American students as well as the students themselves.

The study was performed in the secondary school #179 - Kyiv, Ukraine, and Maple place school - Oceanport, NJ, United States of America.

The questionnaire for our study was developed in cooperation via e-mail between two groups of students - from Ukraine and the United States. We were proud to have successfully formed an international working group through the use of Internet to perform a sociological study. About 300 students from both countries, 11-12 years old, have answered the questions.

Items in the questionnaire were arranged in groups:

• Who has more resources?
• Who takes care of the children?
• Who knows more about the world?
• Who is more optimistic?
• Inner life of students.
