The above map of the world shows the level of health threats to people in developing countries. The countries in white are not developing countries. Generally, the more developed countries are able to spend more money to minimize health threats, and thus have cleaner environments and fewer health problems caused by the environment. Among the developing countries, the ones in the darkest shade of blue face the
greatest environmental threats. These statistics take into account a wide range of environmental problems that could lead to health problems. Widespread poverty is largely responsible for the high levels of environmental health risks in the developing world. Rapid industrialization combined with few
government regulations is also a source of dangerous environmental health threats. |
