The recycling center handles a variety of materials that are brought in by the surrounding city governments that collect them.

When the materials come in, they are unsorted.  Were they sorted, the cities would just be able to do the recycling themselves and sell the materials to firms that need to use them.

It is important that all recyclable materials be brought to the recycling center.  If individuals do not set aside recyclable materials, they end up in a landfill.

The materials include all sorts of plastics, tin, aluminum, glass, cardboard, and other paper.  Every day about 250-300 tons of these recyclable materials come to the recycling center.

Recycables Being Sorted

The materials are brought in on trucks and dumped at different locations around the facility.  From there, machines slowly push the materials up a conveyor belt.  At the top of the belt, a person sorts the various materials into groups of glass, tin, plastic, and other materials.
