The Rainforest Action Network is a California-based group that seeks to protect the rainforests by taking non-violent, direct action.

By making its activities well known, the organization seeks to convince hundreds of thousands of people that the rain forests need to be protected.  It hopes that these people will avoid supporting companies that destroy the rainforests, forcing the companies to rethink their policies.

The organization depends on public support.  In order to be able to carry out its activities, the group needs money from the public.

It offers its members periodic newsletters called Action Alerts that give updates on the struggle to protect the rainforest.  It also puts out a World Rainforest Alert, telling about the state of the rainforests throughout the world.
