The National Wildlife Federation is based in the US state of Virginia.  The group was founded in 1936 and now advocates conservation of the environment and attempts to influence the government.

The organization is composed of individuals, businesses, and other organizations.  It is the largest member-supported conservation group in the United States.  In total, there are four million members of the organization spread throughout the country, though there are offices in only 46 states

One of the primary goals of the organization is to use its membership for grassroots political campaigning.  The organization tells people how to contact lawmakers on its web site, and encourages its members to pressure the government to make conservation-friendly decisions.

People can join the organization whether they are children or adults.  Adults receive the National Wildlife magazine and other benefits, and children receive Ranger Rick magazine.
