The Forest Ecology Network was created to protect the native forests in the US state of Maine.

It aims to educate the public, promote grassroots involvement in the political process, and make everyone more aware of the natural environment in the state.

The group is trying to preserve the Maine Woods.  It opposes the forest industry in its attempts to clear-cut and over-cut forests, and is against the spraying of herbicides into the forest areas.

Realizing that some wood is needed, the group promotes a sustainable wood supply.  It also wants some reserve areas to be set aside and for recycling to increase.  Last, the group would like to see the development of alternatives to trees for papermaking.
