The group's objectives include stabilizing the planet's climate, protecting the oceans, protecting human health, and maintaining biodiversity.

It hopes to protect the environmental rights of all people, including future generations.  It says that these rights include clean air, clean water, healthy, nourishing food, and a flourishing ecosystem.

There are over 300,000 members of the organization.  The group employs 170 people full time, including 75 scientists.  There are a total of eight offices for the organization.

Currently, the organization has programs aimed at restoring natural ecosystems, keeping the air clean of pollution, promoting a healthy environment, and dealing with energy, the oceans, and transportation.
