The Critical Mass Energy Project is part of the Public Citizen organization.  Public Citizen, which well-known activist Ralph Nader helped to found, is currently led by Joan Claybrook.

The organization allows any citizen to join it for $20 per year.  Members receive a report called Public Citizen News to keep them informed on the organization's activities and issues important to members.

The group puts out publications, lobbies Congress, and attempts to rally its membership to support certain policies.

Nuclear safety, nuclear waste, renewable energy, energy efficiency, utility deregulation, and transportation are among the issues that the organization covers.  The group strongly opposes placing nuclear waste in repositories at the expense of the surrounding environment and advocates the development of renewable energy sources.
