Issues
The clash between businesses, environmentalists, and politicians has produced a vast array of environmental policies and legislation.  From Tradable Pollution Permits to Cost-Benefit Analysis , numerous methods have arisen for protecting the environment in an economically efficient manner.

Other actors such as OPEC also influence environmental economics and make the issue a global one.  Many controversial topics, from NAFTA to Third World Pollution, form the debate on environmental economics.

Ideologies
There are a variety of philosophies that deal specifically with the environment.  The idea of
Sustainable Economics and the theory of the Tragedy of the Commons are just two concepts in the field of environmental economics.  Many other philosophies, such as Marxism, have a view of the environment based on another, broader theory.
