The Whitfield House
The Henry Whitfield House, now a state museum, is surrounded by several acres of lawn and trees making it an ideal setting for a visit with history. Explore three floors of 17th to 19th century furnishings and exhibits on state and local history. One of the exhibits is the first tower clock made in the colonies (1726). The museum contains an herb garden and gift shop. It has been named a National Historic Landmark, one of just 56 such sites in the state. The Whitfield House is one of just three surviving 17th-century masonry houses in the nation. Built in 1639, it is Connecticut's oldest house, and New England's oldest stone house. top
