Reasons for collectivisation
The small existing farms were a hindrance to progress. Their size put a limit on the level of out put as they could use machinery to produce higher output . Mechanisation, with use of tractors and other modern equipment meant that the farms could be run more efficiently. It allowed labour specialisation and would not need so much labour. The surplus labour could be channelled to work in the expanding industries. Higher productivity and greater output also meant that there would be food resources to support the workers. Surplus crops could be exported to earn revenue to finance the industries. The grouping of farms into larger units allowed easier state control and grain collection. Collectivisation would remove the kulaks and make all peasants equal. This would be a step towards a classless society and making USSR a socialist state.
