Day 5: Oldavai & Serengeti (Arrival)

On day five we left the Ngorongoro Crater.  We were headed to the Serengeti plains where we would camp for three nights.  On our way there we stopped at Oldavai.

A picture of Oldavai.

Oldavai was the place where Mary Leike found the oldest human remains.   In this picture, behind us, you can see different layers of the earth.  The layers range from one hundred million years ago to yesterday.  Oldavai was formed by an overflow flood from the Great Rift Valley.

A picture of a giraffe we saw on our way to the Serengeti.

Giraffes are vegetarian animals that use their spotted skin as camouflage from possible predators.  Giraffes use their long necks to get untouched food from high in the trees.
