The 1997 National Player of the Year was Tim Duncan from Wake Forest.  Duncan was born April 25, 1976 in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.  Duncan is a 6'10", 238 pound forward from St. Dunstans Episcopal High School.  The awards that he received are National Player of the Year, AP Player of the year, The United States Basketball Writers Player of the Year, The NABC National Defensive Player of the Year.  Duncan was the first overall draft pick of the NBA draft in 1997 by San Antanio Spurs.
