THE VEINS

Afferent vessels are blood vessels that bring blood towards the heart. The veins are such blood vessels. Veins carry blood back to the heart. Most veins carry blood with low oxygen contents. The pulmonary vein is an exception - carry oxygen-rich blood from the lungs to the heart.

The veins are connected to the capillaries through the venules. Venules are part of the veins and are basically small veins that are attached to the capillaries to join back as one large vein.

Of the 5 litres of blood in your body, about 3 liters is in your veins at any one time..
