拋體運動可以當作是兩個同時發生但無相關的運動：一個水平分量（假設無空氣阻力），一個垂直分量 (假設平衡地心引力)•因為此兩個同時發生但無相關的運動，合向量成為拋體形•

當木塞子射出時，它的合向量成為拋體形•藍箭頭是水平分量（假設無空氣阻力），而紅箭頭是垂直分量 (假設平衡地心引力)•綠箭頭是它的合向量成為拋體形•
