What's "bulb"?

"Bulb" comes from far back in camera history, when a rubber bulb on the end of a rubber tube that actuated a pneunmatic (air-driven) shutter. The shutter would remain open until pressure was relieved. While pneumatic shutters are now outdated, the name is still used for a setting for holding the shutter open for any time interval.
