i usually check out prices on ebay.com which pretty much gives you a good idea on prices...just bought an EOS Rebel QD 2 weeks ago but am based in HK...about USD300 with lots of freebies (Canon tripod, bag, film, etc)...wouldn't mean much to you if you're in US...check out other internet shopping sites too...and yes, there are similar and cheaper brands...but personally, i always consider Canon as my first choice...good luck!!! :-)
