I had this same problem, coincidentally with a Canon SLR camera as well. EOS 3000N model to be exact. Anywho, I was able to get most of the "fluff" off of mine using a vaccum and a small straw (to get closer to the internals). However some of the fluff just wouldn't come off so I took it to a camera shop. They said that using a vaccum wasn't a terrible idea, but using the rag and Q tips before that wasn't such a hot idea. I ended up taking it back to the place of purchase and telling them the camera's lens came like that. I got all my money back and went and got a Nikon F-55, heheh. Now I know my lesson.

ps. your camera is probably toast if you've been touching the insides. Next time take it to a dealer to get cleaned.

Oh and I know how frustrating it is. There must be something about Canon's because this Nikon hasn't got a spec of anything in the body or lens.
