battery pack bp200

I just ordered a slr camera package online(an EOS 300) which i threw in a lens and a bp200. Its my first slr camera, so im by no means experienced. Anyway; while i was looking to attach the battery pack to the camera, i noticed that the cover to the battery compartment would not move out of the way enough to allow the connection to slide into the base of the camera. I didn't fool with it much, since im in no rush to have it on there, but i was just wondering if you have to force it off of the base (i hope not) or if it snaps out or whatever. thanks
