Mirror Cleaning

I recently cleaned the interior mirror of my SLR using a Q-tip cotton swab. The reason I did this was because it seemed to have a stubborn thin layer of something that resembled humidity. Now reading on the internet this seems to have been a bad idea. How can I know if I messed up my camera? Thank you.
